Exciting news. St. Joseph Social Service Center and The Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless are joining forces to participate in a new fund raising event. The Professional Golfers Association (PGA Tour) is hosting The Barclays FedEx Cup tournament at Liberty National Golf Club, Jersey City, August 20-25, 2013. This tournament has greatly increased in attendance since it became the first of four legs of the FedEx Cup. The PGA Tour is a non-profit organization that shares the revenue from each event with local charities like St. Joseph's and The Coalition. In fact, the Barclays has raised more than $40,000,000 for local charities since 1967. There is the potential for this project to bring in substantial funds for our sister organizations, but only if enough people participate.

In order for St. Joseph/The Coalition to qualify, we need to have at least 30 volunteers to work for the PGA Tour leading up to and during the tournament. The event has 24 committees from which to choose, most of which require no prior golf knowledge by the volunteers. There is a $75 fee, which affords you a Barclays golf shirt, hat, volunteer pin, credentials, lunch vouchers for the days you work, grounds ticket and a guest ticket for all days of the event. (Value: $300)

There is another way for our organizations to significantly benefit from this PGA tournament: through TICKETS fore CHARITY. By encouraging friends and acquaintances to purchase tournament tickets online and highlight the St. Joseph/Coalition organization, we can raise even more much-needed funds. More information will follow, but it's not too early to line up potential purchasers of tickets.

Bernie Fitzsimmons is coordinating this project for our organizations. Contact Bernie at 240-447-4796 or to let him know that you're interested. He'll be glad to assist with any concerns or questions. Here is a link to provide you with more information about volunteering: After registering, email Bernie and let him know you're on board.

The committees and shifts for volunteers are filling up fast, so we recommend that you act soon.

Being outdoors among some of the greatest athletes promises to be a memorable experience. Having the opportunity to enjoy a fantastic view of the Statue of Liberty and the New York skyline is truly unique. Spending the day in the company of a friend or two enhances the adventure. Volunteering for these sister organizations is the ultimate satisfaction.

We hope you are able to take part.
