POSITION PURPOSE:Develop a workable practical design of complex diagnostic instruments from an engineering concept through completed design. Design tasks will be of a complex technical nature requiring application of basic engineering design principles and practices.
+ Evaluate alternative approaches to develop solutions of complex design problems from a design and engineering perspective, under the guidance of the project s engineer(s).
+ Identify critical areas of the design, and perform and document complex component interface tolerance computations to assure proper fit of mating components, allowing for vendor fabrication process capabilities.
+ Assist in the selection and recommendation of components and manufacturing processes for engineering approval which will meet design criteria of function, quality, reliability and cost.
+ Evaluate inputs from vendors during design of components to insure manufacturability and interface with vendors to facilitate development of the tooling from our designs.
+ Provide inputs of design requirements for project scheduling and status reports on progress of design effort to the Project Team of assigned projects.
+ Address issues from, and provide information to Purchasing, Reliability, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and Service to insure that designs will implement smoothly into production.
+ May coordinate and direct the work efforts of other designers during a project s design cycle to meet project objectives.
+ Assure the completion of the design drawing documentation package for the project that he/she is assigned to.
+ Responsible for construction, testing and documentation of assemblies and subassemblies.
+ Requires a BS in Engineering Technology with 2+ years of proven experience, or an AA in Engineering Technology with 6+ years of proven experience, or a minimum of 10 years of direct experience relating to instrument design.
+ Must have an in-depth knowledge of electrical/mechanical instrument design techniques, basic engineering principles, materials, processes and standards.
+ Must have strong communication and organizational skills.
+ In-depth CAD design knowledge and strong three-dimensional modeling skills or strong printed circuit board design skills are required.
