Bookkeeper - Full Charge
Montclair, NJ
30-40 hrs/week

We seek a flexible Full Charge Bookkeeper who will perform duties in a manner consistent with our philosophy and increase our ability to provide community-based jazz services with honor reporting directly to the Founder.
Must have a heart for non-profits, be organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable. We are looking for someone who isn’t afraid to ask questions and uses good judgment to trouble-shoot and analyze any situation. An ideal candidate loves numbers, has a passion for music, and believes in the organization’s core values.

Core Responsibilities Include:
1. General Bookkeeping

• Maintain accounting records in QuickBooks
• Track, code and catalog all Festival, Event and Program income and expenses and perform account reconciliation on a monthly basis
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, deposits, and cash disbursements to ensure that payments are sent and received on a timely basis
• Provide oversight to payroll coordinator
• Update budget and cash flow report on a monthly basis
• Maintain records of non-profit restricted/temporarily-restricted transactions
• Provide reporting and reconciliation support to the Development Department

2. Business Management
• Provide financial analysis of new business opportunities
• Oversee insurance renewals and maintain up-to-date insurance coverage
• Manage vendor and programmatic contracts
• Manage organization Trademarks and renewals
• Design and implement internal controls to prevent fraud, error, waste, and abuse
• Oversee and ensure best practices for data security

3. Financial Oversight
• Cash management
• Board liaison
• Audit prep and support
• Compliance with regulatory agencies

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

Technical Skills
• Advanced applications software expertise in Excel
• Superior knowledge of QuickBooks required. QuickBooks certification preferred.

• A sense of humor

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field from a four-year college is required.
• 5+ years’ experience in bookkeeping, budgeting, or related field.
• Understanding of bookkeeping principles for non-profits required.

This position pays $25-30/hour commensurate with experience, plus health benefits and the opportunity to have positive impact on the world
